

The brief was to restore this period house and its outbuildings to provide a home suitable for modern family living. A sensible approach to the proposals was needed due to the house’s location within both the Compton Conservation Area and the South Downs National Park.
One of the key design considerations was the position of the well winch, which has been highlighted as a key feature within the extended kitchen.

The house underwent extensive restoration works, with both internal and external renovation. The works included the complete re-rendering of the house in lime render and re-roofing of the house by craftsman Liam O’Neill of Lion Roofing, who received a Building Crafts Award for the project in 2020.
